Why North Carolina’s Quiet Cannabis Success Is Worth Protecting

North Carolina may have stumbled into one of the most functional cannabis systems in the country—by doing less, not more.

Since 2018, small businesses like ours have been offering hemp-derived cannabis products to people all across the state. Not through a medical monopoly, not under tight corporate control—but through trusted local shops that focus on safety, education, and community.

And guess what? It’s working.

Most of our customers aren’t trying to get “medicated.” They just want to unwind after work, sleep through the night, relieve some pain, or manage their stress. Flower and gummies help them do that—gently, naturally, and without the side effects of pills or alcohol.

Now we have science to back it up.

A July 2025 study published in the journal Pharmacy looked at over 5,000 chronic pain patients and found that cannabis users had:

  • 27% fewer urgent care visits
  • 33% fewer ER visits
  • 3.5 fewer unhealthy days per month
  • Improved overall quality of life

In other words, cannabis use made people feel better and reduced strain on our healthcare system. It’s not just anecdotal anymore—it’s data.

And yet, other states are moving backwards. Arkansas, Georgia, and maybe Texas are banning THCA flower and high-quality hemp products. North Carolina could be next.

That’s why the Governor’s Advisory Council on Cannabis is asking for public comments—and we think you should add your voice.

What’s at stake?

  • Your access to safe, effective cannabis products
  • Thousands of North Carolina jobs already created by the hemp industry
  • Small businesses like ours, which have invested years into doing this right

North Carolina has something special. It’s not about being left or right—it’s about being smart. Let’s keep it that way.
